Another Bible-quoting Social Conservative Falls Again

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford announced in a tearful, rambling apology that he has been involved in an extra-marital affair yesterday to news organizations. Governor Sanford had been asked to leave his home by his wife two weeks ago when she learned of the affair. Following his separation from his wife, he left on a secret trip, to reconnect with his mistress in Argentina. Apparently he has counseled his mistress beginning eight years ago because she was having marital problems, encouraging her to re-unite with her husband for her two kids sake. He said this all happened "innocently", but then kicked it into high gear with an extra-marital affair a year ago, having two other rendezvous' before this most recent one.

The Washington Post, characterized the governor as "a bible-quoting social conservative." This is disappointment to say the least because we have someone who is suppose to be an solid Christian who has allowed himself to get involved in adultery and it has been publicized nationally. Another Christian role model falls again. Not only did he commit this embarrassing act of adultery but the way he went about confessing to his state, fellow statemens and the nation did not show he him in a good light either. When will political officials, entertainers, athletes start living up to their responsibility to be strong role models for their families, children and the community and nation in which they live? When will Christians who are in the public eye, begin to live out what they preach? Fox news reported that he and his wife would be trying to restore their marriage. This is a good start, but should not be just for the kids sake. It should be because they made a commitment to God and one another. Again, I challenge Christian representatives: politicians, movies stars, entertainers, athletes to live the word of God in their lives daily. Live the Faith for Jesus, yourselves and the people who mentor and love you.
